From the foreword by  J. Leighton Stuart, "Madme Chiang describes her part in this sensational occurance ( Sian, a Coup d'Etat) while the incidents are still fresh in her memory and in doing so unconsciously reveals a wifely devotion, a woman's intuitive understanding of the basic issues and a superb heroism which are the more convincing because written with so objective a purpose to give the simple facts. General Chiang has kept a diary for many years, recording events and his own reactions with a soldier's bluntness and the artless honesty of writing what was intended only for personal use. This habit served him in good stead when earlier sections were surrepitiously read by his captors and now when he is determined to share this part with a public which he feels is entitled to first-hand information."

3 black & white illustrations, red cloth, stain on low left corner of the board, shelf wear,  lack dust jacket, in general a good condition.
